Happy World Down Syndrome Day! Down Syndrome International (DSI) has officially earmarked 21 March as World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). The date was chosen to signify the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome and is used synonymously with Down syndrome.

There is new and exciting news in the Down Syndrome research world. A study has been posted in an online pre-publication from Nature Neuroscience Website: "Pharmacotherapy for cognitive impairment in a mouse model of Downsyndrome" regarding a very exciting study on a drug that has shown to improve cognitive abilities in Down Syndrome mouse models. This month, instead of having our usual Support Group meeting, we went to Air Kids in Corona for a Christmas Party. We were able to use the party room for pizza and snacks. After dinner we all went out into the rooms with the giant inflatables and the kids had a blast! Kayla and Malena stole the spotlight with some awesome dancing! I set up this blog as a preview of the upcoming DSARCW. We are waiting for the new year to roll around before we file for our non-profit status, but plans are well underway!
